A new blog...... Flaxseed oil
“Wherever flax seed becomes a regular food item among people, there will be better health.” Mahatma Gandhi.
A rich source of healing oil, flaxseed (or linseed) has been cultivated for more than 7000 years. The proteins found in it can be easily digested and contain the complete amino acids the body needs to optimise its immune system and carry out necessary repairs. Flaxseeds also provide substances called lignans (in fact the highest source in human diets) which appear to have beneficial effects on various hormones and may help to fight cancer, bacteria, viruses and fungi. Flax also works to lower cholesterol, and so protects against heart disease.
Flaxseeds are also a great source of dietary fibre and plant based protein. Flax is one of the richest sources of plant-based essential fatty acids, such as omega 3 fatty acids called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), in the world. These essential fatty acids work throughout the body to protect cell membranes enabling them to admit healthy nutrients and bar damaging substances and work alongside the lignans to inhibit tumour growth.
Liquid flaxseed oil, organic and cold pressed, is the easiest way to take a therapeutic amount, two tablespoons a day recommended for the first month and then one tablespoon a day after.
Buy oil that is packaged in an opaque plastic bottle, which filters out oil-spoiling light even better than amber glass does. Store in refrigerator once opened.
