Castor oil is derived from castor beans and is used externally with packing fabric as a technique to support health. Its use dates back to early Egyptian times, and it is used by many practitioners, healers and by naturopaths worldwide.
Castor oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids which give it a soothing and hydrating effect on dry skin. It's antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties make it great for acne-prone skin and as a scalp treatment to treat the bacterial or fungal overgrowths which can cause hair damage or hair loss.
Castor oil packs are indicated in the Gerson Therapy to aid detoxification.

Allergen advice
In very rare cases, castor oil may cause an allergic reaction. We recommend performing a small patch test prior to using castor oil for the first time.
To make a castor oil wrap
Open the packing fabric and fold into three. Soak the fabric with the castor oil and apply the pack to the liver area first for around 30 minutes, securing in place with cling film. Place a hot water bottle on the castor oil pack and rest in a quiet place for the allotted time. You can then move the pack to your chosen area, packing for another 30 - 60 minutes, or as directed by a practitioner. The pack can be placed back into the plastic bag provided and stored in the fridge.

Storage
Once used, seal pack in a plastic bag and store in fridge. The castor oil pack can be re-used up to 30 times. Apply extra castor oil to the pack as needed on each application.
